Athletic bill heads to Senate

Navarre High School athletic director Scott Murphy understands both sides of the extracurricular activities bill, which passed the Florida House of Representatives by an 86-29 vote April 22.

The bill, which would create free agency in high school athletics, is up for a vote in the Senate this week. Sen. Don Gaetz (R-Destin) said changes will need to be made to the bill before it passes.

“There is general frustration on the Senate with the (Florida High School Athletic Association),” Gaetz said. “But I’m not sure if it will pass.”
