Santa Rosa Medical Center hosts Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive to fight hunger

| Staff Reporters
Santa Rosa Medical Center (SRMC) invites community members to join their efforts to fight hunger by participating in the second annual Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive benefiting Feeding the Gulf Coast and FoodRaising Friends, Inc.
The Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive, an initiative to fight local hunger, kicks off on Feb. 12 and will run through March 25.

“We recognize the impact hunger has on an individual’s health and wellbeing, and we want to help those in our community who are struggling with food insecurity,” said Justin Serrano, Chief Executive Officer. “An estimated 1 in 7 children are suffering from this issue and our Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive is a great way to partner with community members to help improve access to nutritious foods for families.”

PB & J’s are often a staple for many families because they are easy for kids to make for themselves. But, the cost can add up. Peanut butter is a sought after item for food banks because of its high nutritional value and long shelf life. Yet, it is one of the least donated items.

Santa Rosa Medical Center will have collection points for jars of peanut butter and monetary donations to buy more jars in the lobbies of the Santa Rosa Medical Group clinics, SRMC’s emergency departments, the hospital’s main lobby and outpatient offices.

SRMC’s goal is to collect at least 1,200 jars this year, more than doubling the 464 jars they collected last year. The Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive kicks off on Feb. 12 and will run through March 25.
