A 49-year-old Navarre man irritated by children riding motorized bikes on a dirt road was arrested after he threatened them with a piece of wood.
Gregory Berry Harvey, who lives at the 2000 block of Bahama Drive, had just retired from the Air Force, according to his Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office arrest report.
On his way to confront the children, he picked up a piece of broken plank, held it in the air as if he was going to strike them with it and threatened to kill the 13-year-old victim, the report said.
The child got away from Harvey and called his mother. He later identified the weapon, which was entered into evidence.
Multiple witnesses spoke to the deputy about what they saw.
After Harvey was advised of his rights, he said he was tired of hearing the children so he walked to the road they were on to confront them. He said he was not sure if he told the child he was going to kill him and said the weapon was “possibly the piece of wood” he was holding. When asked to provide a sworn statement, Harvey said it wasn’t in his best interests, the report said.
He was charged with misdemeanor simple assault.
