How artificial reef tourism contributes to northwest Florida’s economy

Each year, around seven million people visit the Emerald Coast. While they may come for the green water, sugary white sand, and sunshine, local businesses and county governments are counting on those visitors to bring a different kind of green with them.
Artificials reefs are a fixture (both literally and figuratively) beneath the emerald waters of Florida’s Gulf Coast. Aside from their ecological benefits, these reefs also contribute to Florida’s economy through tourism. It’s estimated that Florida’s reefs bring in $3.1 billion annually.
