Gulf Breeze begins placing utilities underground

Within the next year, motorists making their way down U.S. Highway 98 in Gulf Breeze will no longer see powerlines strung above the roadway. The City of Gulf Breeze is taking on the task of placing a portion of U.S. 98’s powerlines underground through a project years in the making. The Utility Underground Conversion Project, which was laid out in the 2018 community redevelopment plan, began to take off in 2021 when funding and planning began to come to fruition. The scope of the project is to convert 4,200 linear feet of above ground wire to underground and install LED lighting fixtures. The project will cover 1.1 miles and is expected to be complete in 2024.
The City of Gulf Breeze is beginning their Utility Undergrounding Conversion Project to take above ground powerlines along U.S. Highway 98 and place them underground. According to the City of Gulf Breeze’s website, the project is expected to be complete by Sept. 30, 2024.
