A 58-year-old woman was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in Gulf Breeze on Christmas Day.
The arresting officer was responding to a concerned citizen who flagged his car down to explain that there were people fighting in a tan Grand Marquis heading eastbound.
When the deputy arrived, he spoke with a man whose hand was bleeding. Melinda Carlton, the perpetrator, explained that they were arguing over getting the man more beer at the store. The argument escalated, and the man claimed that Carlton punched him, so he pushed her. Carlton then ran and retrieved her revolver, and then shot it toward the ceiling of their residence.
The pair struggled over the gun, and the man claimed that it was fired a few more times and that Carlton bit his hand in an attempt to get the gun back.
Carlton said that she did not remember the whole struggle, but that the man gained control of the firearm and held her down on the bed, which is when she bit him.
When the deputy ran the firearm’s serial number, it was revealed to be stolen. He charged Carlton with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She was additionally charged with grand theft of a firearm.
