In September 2017, Gulf Power and its partners flipped the switch on a 330-acre solar field on the retired Holley Outlying Field at Naval Air Station Whiting, ceremonially adding the renewable energy generated there to the power supplied to homes and businesses throughout the Panhandle.
More than a year later, Gulf Power spokesperson Kimberly Lynn Blair reports that the field and its two sisters in Escambia and Okaloosa counties are performing at expectation, generating enough power for 18,000 homes at once through 1.5 million photovoltaic panels.
