Prior to Friday’s game at Bennett C. Russell Stadium, the senior players were recognized and applauded for their contribution to the Navarre soccer program. Coach Zac Preston had all of the seniors on the field to start the contest. Unfortunately, after playing a game shortened due to the frigid temperatures, the Raiders could only come away with a 1-1 tie.

The Lady Raiders ended their regular season with two more home wins. They shut out Catholic 8-0 on Jan. 6 and beat Choctaw the next night by a 9-1 score.

The Navarre boys soccer team began 2015 just like they ended 2014 by winning and holding their opponent scoreless at the Jan. 5 game.

Navarre 1 Niceville 0

Navarre closed out the 2014 portion of the 2014-2015 season with a 1-0 road victory over Niceville. The Raiders defeated the Eagles in both of their regular season meetings by the same score.

A month ago, the Lady Raiders and West Florida played to a scoreless tie. Jan. 3 the two teams had their rematch at Navarre and the home team shut out West Florida 5-0.

Raiders’ lifters defeat Pine Forest 3/6

The Navarre boys’ weightlifting team won their first dual meet of the season against Pine Forest at home Feb. 19 by a score of 59 – 31. For many of the lifters, the meet served as an educational opportunity. Coaches who doubled as judges made sure that each competitor understood any fouls detected and how to avoid them.

In a tri-meet held at Fort Walton Beach on Dec. 17, the Raiders won every first and second place except in one weight division.

The Lady Raiders beat Niceville 4-0 at home on Dec. 16. The victory gave the Raiders an unbeaten district record and earned them the number one seed in the district playoffs which begin Jan. 13.

Eric Solgard graduated from Gulf Breeze High School in 1998, where he played four years of football. When he didn’t receive any scholarship offers, he joined the military. Turning the clock ahead a few years, after receiving a medical discharge, he decided return to the sport he loved … football.

For the first time in school history, the Navarre boys soccer team will enter the district tournament as the number one seed. The team’s 5-2 victory over Crestview on Monday night guaranteed they will have the best regular season record of the eight teams in their district.
