Recommendations to protect newborns
Attorney General Pam Bondi convened March 3 the Statewide Task Force on Prescription Drug Abuse and Newborns to discuss and release the group’s 2014 report. It provides an update on the implementation of the Task Force’s recommendations to combat Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS). NAS refers to a group of medical complications associated with the withdrawal process newborns typically experience after birth if their mothers have abused prescription drugs during pregnancy.

FDLE chemist pleads not guilty
A former chemist who was a supervisor in the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) crime lab in Pensacola pleaded not guilty to a multitude of charges related to missing prescription drug evidence. Joseph Graves’ attorney Michael Griffith entered a not guilty plea at a Feb. 25 arraignment before Judge Terry Terrell.

Commission moving forward with courthouse site
Santa Rosa County Commissioners are moving forward with their plan to buy about 24.5 acres on Highway 90 near the Pea Ridge community for the site of a proposed new courthouse. Projected costs associated with the purchase total $3.75 million.
