Two arrested for HBTS car burglaries
Two arrests have been made involving a series of car burglaries that occurred in the Holley by the Sea area. According to a Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office report, officers spotted Nathan Gifford, 20, and his accomplice Michaela Read, 22, at 4 a.m. Monday in a white vehicle at the Tom Thumb located at Highway 98 and Coral Street, after receiving reports of a suspicious individual breaking into cars.

Circle K robbery suspects nabbed
The Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office was able to connect suspects arrested after robbing a Circle K store on Barrancas Avenue in Pensacola with two other Circle K robberies in the Milton area.

TDC committee discusses end to annual tour funding
A decade ago the Santa Rosa County Tourist Development Council (TDC) started the annual Beaches to Woodlands Tour in an effort to create a “shoulder” season to expand tourism past the area’s traditional ending marker, Labor Day. The event started out featuring events along a countywide route during a couple of weekends each October but gradually became a festival lasting the entire month, highlighting Santa Rosa’s arts & culture, heritage and outdoor venues.

Sunshine law hampers RESTORE Act in Florida
Four states impacted by the 2010 BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill have already received a draft of the much anticipated RESTORE Act implementation regulations from the U.S. Department of Treasury. Santa Rosa is not among those, and fingers are being pointed at the state’s open government laws.

Florida’s ethanol mandate repealed
A repeal on the state’s ethanol mandate requiring gas stations to sell blended fuel, or gasoline that is mixed with enthanol, went into effect this week — meaning local stations are now able to sell pure gasoline if they choose.

High bacteria levels still warranting water advisory at Navarre Park
The water in the Sound directly behind Navarre Park is still “swim at your own risk” after additional tests last week and again on Monday tested high for bacteria levels, according to the Florida Department of Health in Santa Rosa County.
