Surge in cases leads to increased local testing options

Man who stopped to help victims of head-on collision haunted by scene, what could have been

A Louisiana family traveling to the beach Friday morning narrowly missed being struck head-on by the driver traveling on the wrong side of State Road 87 over the Yellow River.

The driver, a 56-year-old Navarre man, was killed after striking a driver just behind Ken Parker and his family.

Vaccinations up in county; so are the number of COVID cases

The number of people vaccinated for COVID-19 nearly doubled last week, with 1,843 people receiving vaccinations compared to 938 the week before. About 45% of the population is now vaccinated.

But the number of cases and hospitalizations also increased dramatically too. Santa Rosa now has the fourth highest positivity rate in the state at 27.6. That means more than a quarter of the people being tested are positive for the virus.

Green flags flying: ‘Mother Nature is playing nice’

For the first time ever, Navarre Beach has had green flag conditions for six days in a row. Beginning Sunday, July 25 green flags have flown over the beach. Saturday, July 24, also started out with green flags flying but changed to yellow when a storm blew in.

BREAKING NEWS: One dead in high-impact, head-on collision over Yellow River

A 56-year-old Navarre man was killed Friday morning in a head-on collision on State Road 87 on the Yellow River Bridge.

The man, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was driving a dark-colored Honda sedan north in the southbound lanes, according to the Florida Highway Patrol media release.
