Santa Rosa Education Foundation is pleased to announce the thirty-seven nominees for Santa Rosa Teacher of the Year.  Nominees were selected by their peers at schools throughout the district. 

This summer, a former Holley-Navarre Middle School band director died.
Alicia Trevino, 59, passed peacefully at her home in Cantonment July 11. Born Jan. 15, 1966, in Kansas City, Missouri, Trevino grew up the daughter of a pastor and a middle child with five siblings.

Ellery Markie of Navarre, a secondary education major in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s College of Education and Human Sciences, is among a record 739 students selected to join the college’s University Honors Program this fall. The cohort is 15% larger than the previous record class in 2019.

Navarre High School is all about equipping their students with the tools needed for a successful career and life. As one teacher at Navarre High found out last week, those tools can also help build classroom furniture.

A statewide organization has recognized East Bay K-8 and its library media specialist, Morgan Evans, with the designation of 2025 Florida Power-Library School.

In early August, local students’ parents were abuzz on Facebook. A post was circulating that administrators at Thomas L. Sims Middle School were refusing to distribute class schedules to students who had an unpaid balance on their school lunch account. While this proved to be untrue, and ultimately a misunderstanding, it brought up the topic of school lunch debt, and what exactly that means for students and schools.

Each year, Santa Rosa and Escambia Counties’ middle school students venture to NAS Pensacola for a lesson in science, technology, engineering and math.

Keith Elliott, the suspended I.T. professional for Santa Rosa County District Schools, has not been terminated. At least, not yet.
