Elementary students from 16 schools across Santa Rosa County gathered at the Santa Rosa County Auditorium in Milton on April 26 for “Battle of the Books.” Each school was represented by a team of five students. 

The process to challenge a book in Santa Rosa County District Schools has been centralized thanks to changes approved at April’s school board meeting on April 11.

Around 75% of people have a fear of public speaking. While many people might dread having to speak or give a presentation in front of an audience, it is a skill necessary to develop for a person’s work and social life.

Something interstellar has taken root at West Navarre Intermediate School. On Friday, April 26, a handful of students got to be a part of history when they planted a seedling “moon tree.”

An interdisciplinary team of faculty from the University of West Florida has served as the program evaluation team for the Florida Department of Health’s Cancer Prevention and Control Implementation Program since 2018. The team’s contract was recently renewed after it received strong feedback from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which funds the initiative.

On April 16 and 17, students from Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, and Walton counties were given the opportunity to go to Milton to take part in Northwest Florida Construction Career Days.

A Galaxy far, far away will be a little closer to home for Navarre High School’s Exceptional Student Education (ESE) students this April.

On Friday, April 19, Bennett C. Russell Stadium, where the Navarre Raiders play football, will become the site of ‘Raider Wars 2024.’ The Raider Wars, which is “Star Wars” themed, is the latest installment of the annual Navarre High Raider Games.

Since 1997, Sodexo has been the food vendor for Santa Rosa District Schools, supplying food and drink to students across the county. On Thursday, April 11, the district announced the longtime partnership was ending.

Just a few hundred yards from Holley Navarre Middle School lies Williams Creek, which runs from wetlands near Naval Outlying Landing Field (NOLF) Holley to Santa Rosa Sound.

On Friday, March 15, University of West Florida President Martha D. Saunders announced a gift of $5 million from The Bear Family Foundation, which will rename the UWF College of Business. The college is slated to be named the Lewis Bear Jr. College of Business, contingent on UWF Board of Trustees approval at its quarterly meeting in June. This is the third college to be named in the University’s history.
