Attendance doubles at annual Spooktacular
One by one, miniature versions of pirates, Capt. America and Super Girl made their way in to the fifth annual Science Spooktacular by the Sea Friday evening at the Navarre Beach Marine Science Station.
Beach park repairs drifting upward
The cost to maintain Navarre Beach facilities were up this year due to the winter freeze and the need to rebuild three lifeguard stands due to high winds. Pier restrooms were also renovated bringing the 2013-2014 season’s current expenses to $59,702. That number is up $25,106 from last year and $32,579 from two years ago.
Some like it hot, Navarre likes it spicy
Navarre likes its chili spicy, extra spicy if possible. That’s what you would’ve discovered if you were among the 75 locals armed with small Styrofoam cups and plastic spoons at the 21st annual Charity Chili Cook-Off hosted at Juana’s Pagoda’s Sunday, Oct. 19.
Sea Turtle Sightings!
The Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center has a new attraction aimed to promote education and awareness of local reefs and marine ecosystems. The center launched 5 clear-bottomed kayaks at their Oct. 11 Sea Turtle Extravaganza.
Pier restaurant merges with Lagerheads
The Benaq Shaq Café at Navarre Beach Fishing Pier closed Oct. 8. Restaurant operations remained suspended Oct. 9 for a routine quarterly cleaning. The restaurant reopened Oct. 10 with a new but familiar name – Lagerheads.

Sandsculpting festival builds from last year
