Dermatology Specialists use laser treatments to restore skin
The skilled providers at Dermatology Specialists of FL, including board-certified dermatologist Dr. John Phillips and certified physician assistant Lauren Hagen, PA-C, are trained to diagnose and treat a variety of skin conditions like acne, eczema, psoriasis, melasma, warts, and much more. Their goal is to analyze the individual dermatology needs of each patient to help them achieve their healthiest skin for years to come and feel confident in their skin. By using the latest research, proven treatments, and advanced technology, the team delivers an exceptional level of medical care.
In the Navarre office, Dermatology Specialists has a specific laser called the Candela VBeam Perfecta that treats a variety of skin conditions. The VBeam is a Pulsed Dye Laser (PDL), which means it uses a concentrated beam of laser energy to target certain blood vessels in the skin. It has been around for about 10 years now.
Treating common conditions such as acne and redness to vascular conditions such as spider veins, the Vbeam is powerful, yet practically painless. The laser light is delivered in short bursts of energy and then converted into heat. This method destroys the targeted blood vessel but leaves the surrounding healthy skin undamaged. Over time, the body’s lymphatic system will safely break down the destroyed vessels, leaving behind clear skin.
The Candela VBeam Perfecta treats vascular conditions, including:
- Telangiectasia/spider veins, or broken blood vessels
- Cherry Angiomas – small, bright red, dome-shaped skin lesions that look like little blood moles
More common conditions treated at Dermatology Specialists with the VBeam Perfecta laser are:
- Rosacea
- Acne
- Wrinkles
- Scars
- Stretch marks
- Psoriasis
- Warts
“This laser treats all these conditions. It is a very versatile laser,” Hagen said.
And the treatment is relatively painless. Some conditions have a little bit of a mild discomfort at most, and some are altogether painless. Everyone has a different pain tolerance.
“For the patients that experience mild discomfort, we can use topical anesthetics and numb the area that is being treated, whether that be on the face or legs,” Hagan said.
People may try topical creams to treat some of these conditions, but when that doesn’t always work, it is nice to know there is another option.
Dermatology Specialists patients are saying that the Vbeam produces excellent, reliable results and that it’s relatively painless. Also, the treatment is quick compared to others and the results last a long time because it increases collagen production.
“What the laser does is it boosts collagen in the skin, which is why it can help with things like wrinkles and scars and stretch marks,” Hagen said.
The VBeam laser provides more long-term benefits with less frequent treatment. Rather than putting a topical cream on everyday for something like acne or wrinkles or redness, you can experience results from the laser treatment semiannually (or possibly more frequent, depending on your condition) and enjoy a simpler daily skin routine.
And the down time and recovery is fairly quick, only a couple days up to 2 weeks versus other lasers or surgery that could take a month to heal from.
For anyone interested, the team at Dermatology Specialists typically does a consult with patients first and tests a small spot first to make sure the VBeam laser treatment is safe for their skin type. After a few weeks, patients can come back and get the full treatment after knowing they will get the results they are looking for.
Aside from the VBeam Perfecta, Dermatology Specialists offers laser hair removal in Gulf Breeze at Aqua Med Spa, as well as Botox and other cosmetic injectables.
Certified Physician Assistant Lauren Hagen spends Mondays and Thursdays at the Gulf Breeze office and Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at the Navarre office, while Board-Certified Dermatologist Dr. John Phillips is in the Navarre office on Monday and Thursday and at the Gulf Breeze office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday.
