Seniors’ preventive health checkups can make big difference in the long run

Major health issues are tough to ignore.

But all too often older adults, particularly those 65 or older, come up with a reason not to take part in routine clinical services that could end up preventing more serious health problems down the road.

Dr. Anita Westafer of Sacred Heart Health System specializes in preventive care and explains the excuse of “feeling fine” is among the most popular.

“Many people state that if they feel fine they see no reason to go to a doctor and have a checkup. Yet, some of our worst illnesses can be silent until much damage is done,” Westafer said.

Denial also serves as a roadblock to routine checkups.
