A rezoning to allow a private school to be built in Navarre was passed to roaring applause at the Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners’ rezoning meeting May 26.
The school to be built on East Bay Boulevard is a relocation of the Christian private school Gulf Pointe Academy. The new location will combine the school’s current locations in Navarre and Gulf Breeze.
Head of School Dianne Hamer said the campus relocation has been a long time coming.
“We worked very long and hard to find the right location,” Hamer said. “Santa Rosa County’s development code is not very friendly to building private schools, and what I mean by that is the county has 30 different codes and only one of those zoning codes allows for building a private school. We had to find a property that fit that one zone code, PBD.”
Hamer said it was also important that they stay within Navarre.
“Navarre is our home.”
Gulf Pointe partnered with the property’s current owner the Dioceses of Pensacola-Tallahassee to make the rezoning a reality. The Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee will sell the property to Gulf Pointe.
