House committee approves guns in schools

The Florida House Justice Appropriations Committee last week approved a bill giving schools the option to appoint former or current law enforcement or military personnel with proper training to carry firearms on school campuses. The committee’s 8 to 4 vote showed a clear divide between those who believe having armed personnel in schools will increase safety and others who fear the presence of firearms could lead to more school violence.
