Nichols takes long road to stardom

Joe Nichols didn’t take the typical road to country music stardom.

The road was a long one for sure, filled with twists and turns along the way.

It appeared he was on his way to a long career when he signed with Intersound Records at the age of 19. But his first album, “Joe Nichols,” sold poorly and the label dropped him.

A second label, Giant Records, signed him but an album was never produced, leaving Nichols to find other ways to make a living in Nashville. He moved furniture, installed cable and even sold steaks door to door.
