Yellow River crested Sept. 20 as the rains of Hurricane Sally flowed down stream. Despite the rise, properties along the water came away relatively unscathed, said Public Safety Director Brad Baker.
As it turned out, the alerts that went out about potential threats may have reached further than necessary, he said. The county implemented a new text alert system to share recommended evacuations alerts with the public.
Areas along the southern portion of Coachman Road, along Fisher Road and near Ward Basin Road were at risk, and these areas were given recommended evacuation orders.
