Write-in candidates shut out 41% of voters

Primary elections for two county commissioner seats Aug. 18 have been closed to more than 57,000 Santa Rosa County voters by write-in candidates that do not live in the districts they are running for.

Gulf Breeze resident Patrick Brown is running as a write-in for District 3 County Commissioner, located on the opposite end of the county. Brown has not received any campaign donations and has made no expenditures despite having five others running for the same office under the Republican party.

He pointed out he is not going to face all of them.

“I’m not actively campaigning until after the primary is over,” he said. “I want to know who I’m running against.”
