With nearly 80 players working out this summer, Navarre’s volleyball team is expecting highly competitive tryouts next week.
“It’s a good problem to have,” Navarre head coach Ryan Davenport said. “We have a lot of really good volleyball players and there are no guaranteed spots. We’re expecting a really competitive tryout.”
The Raiders have spent the last two months preparing for just that and rising senior Haley McGee will tell you it’s been a busy and challenging stretch, to say the least.
“It’s really intense training. We’re very go, go, go right now, working hard in the gym. I feel like we’ve gotten better because of it,” McGee said.
McGee said the Gold Medal Squared Camp the Raiders took part in last month helped set the tone for summer workouts.
“It took us to where we needed to go,” McGee said. “We really started working at our fundamentals and capitalizing on them. I also think we’re working well together. We’re talking, communicating and all working towards the same goal.”
Davenport agrees team unity has improved a great deal as he prepares to enter his second year as the head coach of the Raiders.
He’s also been impressed with the fundamental work.
