A welfare check in Milton Friday lead to the discovery of a body and murder charges.
Santa Rosa County deputies arrested Jerry Geisler Odum, 61, at his residence on Vendom Court Aug. 7. He is charged with first degree murder
The victim has been identified as Vicky May Edge, 59, of Okaloosa County. According to an arrest report, Edge was in Milton visiting her boyfriend, Odum, and family had not heard from her in two days.
Authorities were alerted to the situation, and a welfare check was conducted at the residence. Edge’s car was allegedly in the driveway with the license plate removed.
Odum did not immediately answer the door to deputies, instead coming out the garage door. He made contact with one of the deputies and asked to speak with him in the garage.
His statement is partially redacted, but according to the report Odum said, “She is inside, but I have to tell you something first,” then the redacted portion.
The deputy asked how Edge had died, and Odum said “I’d rather not say without a lawyer.”
He was also asked why if she was dead had law enforcement not been contacted for two days. Odum was detained and consented to deputies entering the house.
Inside the house, deputies found Edge’s body.
In a largely redacted interview, Odum told deputies he had given Edge a $15,000 check for their upcoming wedding, but he knew he didn’t have the money to cover it. He also described buying a baseball bat the week before the incident.
He told deputies that after the incident he went to Crestview and got a hotel room and that he removed the license plate from Edge’s vehicle to prevent anyone from knowing her car was there.
Odum is currently being held without bond in Santa Rosa County Jail on a charge of first degree murder.
