Every day more than 22 veterans die by suicide.

In a state like Florida, where the veteran to population rate is high, the impact is felt throughout communities.

“That is unacceptable,” said Michael Martin, of United Way of West Florida’s 211 program.

Martin and his team are working to reverse that trend through a new pilot program in Florida. 211 is a phone service that allows people to anonymously find information about financial assistance and resources when in crisis. The resource referrals are catered to that person’s specific eligibility, making finding help easier.
