Turn lane changes planned along 98

Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will construct improvements starting Oct. 14 to seven turn lane areas along U.S. Highway 98 in Gulf Breeze, Midway and Navarre.

The $1.1 million project will include improvements to safety and operation of breaks in medians along 98 including milling and resurfacing, new turn lanes, median openings, drainage upgrades and landscape relocation.

According to FDOT, there will be lane closures and shifts between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. during the construction. Off duty law enforcement are also scheduled to be at the intersection of Oriole Beach Boulevard, Best Western hotel and Winn Dixie during nighttime paving operations.

Motorists are reminded to watch for heavy equipment and workers entering and exiting the roadway FDOT said in an advisory.

The project is expected to be completed in spring 2020.

The sites along 98 included are:

Villa Woods Circle to Marble Court (Gulf Breeze)

FDOT plans to extend the eastbound, left turn lane west of Marble Court and close the median at Villa Woods Circle. They will add drainage improvements and a grassed median.

Oriole Beach Road (Gulf Breeze)

Reconstruction of the median to accommodate for the extension of the eastbound, left turn lane just west of Oriole Beach Road is planned along with drainage improvements and a grassed median.

Grand Ridge Circle to Fordham Parkway (Gulf Breeze)

Reconstruction of the median concrete separator is planned. FDOT will construct a directional median opening at Pointe Plaza and Wendy’s and extend the eastbound, left turn lane into Pointe Plaza. The median opening into Nature Scape will be closed along with construction of grassed median and drainage improvements.

El Rito Drive/College Parkway (Gulf Breeze)

FDOT will construct a directional median opening at Bealls and Arby’s and extend the eastbound, left turn lane into Arby’s. They will close the median opening into Dollar Tree and construct a grassed median and drainage improvements.

America Avenue (Midway)

Closure of the median opening at America Avenue is planned. FDOT will also extend the westbound, left turn lane into the Santa Rosa County Tax Collector’s Office and extend the eastbound, left turn lane at Ambassador Drive, adding grass medians.

Alpine Avenue (Navarre)

FDOT will construct a directional median opening at Alpine Avenue and extend the eastbound, left turn lane at Alpine Avenue.

West of Ortega Park Drive (Navarre) in front of Days Inn and Best Western

FDOT will construct a directional median opening at Days Inn and Half Hitch Tackle. They will extend the eastbound, left turn lane into Days Inn and extend the westbound, left turn lanes into Best Western and Half Hitch Tackle. They will also construct a grassed median and drainage improvements.
