Tourney play continues in girls soccer, boys basketball

Regional tournament play in 6A begins this week for Navarre’s girls soccer team. Meanwhile the Raider boys basketball team opens District 1-6A tourney play later this week.

The girls soccer team is coming off its first district tournament title since 2015, beating Niceville 3-2 Friday, and is hoping to make a run at state much the way it did the last time it won a district crown.

The third-seeded Raiders begin that quest Tuesday against sixth-seeded Fleming Island. Game time is 6 p.m. at Bennett C. Russell Stadium. The winner plays No. 2 seed Chiles or No. 7 seed Fletcher Friday. in a regional semifinal at the site of the higher seed.

As for hoops team, Navarre closed the regular season on a 10-game winning streak and sits at 18-7. The second-seeded Raiders now battle the reigning state champion Crestview Bulldogs Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Crestview.

The winner advances to Saturday’s district title game. Top-seeded Tate plays No. 4 seed Niceville or No. 5 seed Pace on Friday in the other semifinal.

Navarre is 10th in the latest regional poll and likely needs to win the district title to earn a spot in the playoffs.
