The view from the press box

It’s been a crazy week. For the first time in my life I experienced a hurricane. Despite some issues at home, we fared pretty well all things considered.

I know others weren’t as lucky when it comes to damage and devastation. Many are left starting over.

It’s times like this when sports just don’t matter as much. We began the week looking forward to a full slate of high school athletics, including the football team’s opener tonight against Milton.

We end it trying to recover from the Category 2 storm that ripped through Northwest Florida on Wednesday.

It’s been a strange year already because of everything that 2020 has thrown our way. The COVID-19 pandemic has been tough enough to deal with, including in the sports world. The hurricane just adds to the challenges of trying to get a season off the ground.

But we will get through this just as we do everything else and sports will return next week. I’d say at that point, we are all looking forward to some normalcy again, and sports will help provide it.

Game Time

Though most sporting events are off the schedule this week, the Raider volleyball team is playing Saturday. Navarre will take on Gulf Breeze at Noon. It will be a home match for the Raiders. It’s the first of 15 matches on the schedule for Navarre in this compacted season.

In the News

Despite the storm, another print edition of the Navarre Press is now available. You can find it online as well. The Raider football preview headlines the sports section this week. There are also previews on the Navarre swim and cross-country teams. Be sure to get your copy each week for the best coverage of the Raiders in the area.
