Santa Rosa’s teachers union president was arrested June 11 for allegedly shooting at someone on her property.
Rhonda Chavers is the president of Santa Rosa Professional Educators, the school district’s teacher union.
According to an arrest report, the victim was speaking with another person outside of Chavers’s residence on Fairfield Drive in Milton when Chavers arrived home.
While sitting in her front driver seat, Chavers then allegedly told the victim to get off her property and brandished a handgun. According to the victim, as she was walking away Chavers fired three shots in her direction. The victim said she believes two shots went just over her head.
Statements by the other witness and Chavers are largely redacted from the report.
Chavers was arrested and charged with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
As president of Santa Rosa Professional Educators, Chavers represents the teachers of Santa Rosa County on union matters including negotiating compensation.
She’s been released from Santa Rosa County Jail on $1,000 bond.
