Student Scoop: Locals learn socially distanced college

When Hayden Steele decided to enroll at Florida State University, she did not expect to be attending Zoom meetings for her full online schedule.

But that is the unfortunate reality facing college students in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hayden, whose family lives in Navarre, graduated from Fort Walton Beach High School and is now a first-year pre-med student at FSU majoring in exercise physiology. Despite having all her classes online, Hayden made the decision to go to Tallahassee for the fall semester partly because she had already signed a lease before FSU announcing that the majority of courses would be held online.
