The national average price for a gallon of gas climbed 17 cents last month and that was the largest increase since July. Prices at the pump also increased for 21 consecutive days – the longest streak since February 2013.
Despite the upward trend and significant increase, the nation’s gas prices averaged $3.34 a gallon in February, which was down more than 30 cents from the previous year.
“AAA forecasts the price of gas will continue to rise well into March and April,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Despite the projected rise in pump prices, it’s expected that prices will remain less expensive than last year’s peak of $3.79 per gallon.”
According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of gas in Florida is $3.45, the highest among the Gulf Coast states. The average prices in Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana range from $3.21 to $3.24 per gallon.
