There’s nothing like the freedom of boating, but the experience can be deadly if proper safety measures aren’t in place.
Boating fatalities in Florida increased from 58 in 2013 to 70 in 2014.
Nationally, 610 boating deaths were reported in 2014, the second-lowest number. The lowest was 560 in 2013.
United States Coast Guard Public Affairs Specialist Ashley Johnson said alcohol was leading the cause of death on the water.
“The federal legal limit is the same as driving a car (.08),” Johnson said. “Don’t drink and boat. The two do not mix together.”
