Richard Branson to announce development in Virgin Cruises

British business magnate Richard Branson is announcing the next step for Virgin Cruises in Miami. A news conference is scheduled for Tuesday. Branson announced in December he would launch the cruise line, which joins a strong Virgin compound of a record label, an airline and even space travel, among others. Details about the announcement are vague, but a news releases promises “a very Virgin kind of arrival” by the billionaire that would “make waves” at the Perez Art Museum, which is located off Biscayne Bay.

Court upholds crackdown on Panhandle Beach weddings

A Florida appeals court is siding with county officials who cracked down on beachfront weddings held at property located in a popular beach resort area in the Panhandle. The 1st District Court of Appeal ruled Monday that Walton County officials were permitted to fine the property owners for violating county development codes.

Police label Jacksonville house fire death as suspicious

Investigators say the death of a Jacksonville man in a house fire is suspicious. Firefighters on Monday afternoon found a man in his 30s or 40s dead in a home that had been badly damaged by smoke. The worked as a certified nursing assistant and lived alone. Police say they suspect foul play in the death, but were unsure if the house had been forcibly entered. They say most of the damage done to the dwelling was from smoke.

Man shot after dog tried to defecate in neighbor’s yard

Police say a South Florida father shot a neighbor on Father’s Day because the victim’s dog was trying to defecate in his son’s yard. Miami-Dade police arrested 66-year-old Omar Rodriguez Sunday on charges of second-degree attempted murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Police say Rodriguez shot Jose Rey during an argument in the Kendall neighborhood. Authorities say Rodriguez admitted the dispute began when Rey’s dog tried to defecate in Rodriguez’s son’s yard. A neighbor told police he saw Rodriguez fire two shots at Rey, who was taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center. Authorities say Rey is in critical condition with stomach and spinal injuries.

Serial butt-grabber on loose at Florida International University

Officials are searching for a serial butt-grabber at Florida International University in Miami-Dade County. University police say a woman reported that someone on a bicycle grabbed her backside as she walked near the Green Library on Sunday night. School officials have been searching for the butt-grabber since last year after several women reporting being groped on campus. The first incidents occurred last June. The butt-grabber struck again in September.
