Football is back.
Navarre’s football team kicks off spring practice Monday afternoon. The Raiders are set to be on the field over the next four weeks. The practice schedule culminates with the spring game May 24 against Milton at Bennett C. Russell Stadium.
Navarre head coach Jay Walls feels good about the way things are looking for his team heading into the spring.
“We’ve had a really good offseason. The guys have been working hard in the weight room, getting stronger and getting ready to get back on the field,” Walls said.
There are a lot of question marks surrounding this team.
Navarre is losing arguably one of the best all-around athletes in program history in Dante Wright, who finished his career with 2,498 receiving yards, the first in program history to get to 2,000 receiving yards. He was a threat running the ball as well and dominated on the defensive end, once picking off three passes in a game. Wright is headed to Colorado State.
The Raiders are also losing Josh Carter, who is off to South Alabama, as well Jordan Jefferson, who is headed to West Virginia. Both are state champion weightlifters.
