Waking up is hard to do. Especially early in the morning when even the sun is still rubbing the sleep out of its eyes.
But each day throughout the summer, Heidi Dierig is in the pool by 7 a.m. for practice with the Navarre YMCA swim team.
“It’s not easy,” said Dierig, who is 13 and has been with the YMCA team for the past two seasons. “But the practices aren’t hard. Once I’m swimming, I’m fine.”
Dierig said she has been swimming for seven years and got into the sport because of her dad.
“My dad was a good swimmer and I decided to give it a try,” she said. “I enjoy it a lot. I have a lot of fun with it.”
Jed Tegue, who also plays football, said he became involved with swimming for fun and said it beats alternative ways he could be spending his time.
