The University of West Florida softball team is in Denver this week to play in the NCAA Division II College World Series.
The Argonauts are in the Rocky Mountain State largely because of their talent. They are also out west because of their undeniable will to win. This trait has played an instrumental role in the team’s memorable run to nationals for the second time in three seasons.
Five consecutive times in this tournament, including twice in the NCAA Super Regional, the Argonauts rallied for a win.
Facing Florida Tech last week in the Super Regional, the Argos overcame a two-run deficit to defeat the Panthers 6-3 Thursday and finished the job Friday with a 7-1 come-from-behind win. UWF trailed 1-0 until scoring its runs in the final two innings to punch a ticket to Denver
The Argos were in a position where their season hung in the balance a week earlier as well. The Argos lost 1-0 to Tampa on the second of the double-elimination regional. They bounced back with a 4-3 come-from-behind win over Valdosta State, setting up a win-or-go-home game with Tampa the next day. UWF would have to beat the Spartans twice to move on.
