Navarre’s girls weightlifting team swept all 10 weight classes Wednesday at its first home meet.
In just their second meet of the season, Navarre faced Gulf Breeze and Pace in the tight quarters of the Navarre weightlifting room.
It’s still early, as several lifters did well enough to win their classes, but it was in ways they didn’t expect.
Alexis Prather topped the unlimited weight class with 475 pounds from the bench press and clean and jerk lifts.
“I usually have one bad meet year. And I think this is the one,” Prather said. “It is a lot of weight to other people, but I should’ve gone way higher than that.”
The only bench she got a good lift on was her opener – twice missing at 255 pounds – and she was ‘red lighted’ on her final clean and jerk of 240. She beat second place in her division by 135 pounds in total weight.
“It was good for this meet, but it’s just bad for me because I did more than that last week. I have room to improve,” she said.
