Navarre’s swim team hosted its season-opening short pentathlon Aug. 25, and several Raiders competed well in the meet at the Navarre YMCA. Gulf Breeze and Pace also swam at the meet.
Olivia Sczesny placed in the top 10 in four events, including the 100-meter freestyle. She took seventh with a time of 1:02.47.
Sczesny also finished in the top 10 in the 50 backstroke (34.33, 8th), 50 freestyle (28.38, 8th) and 50 butterfly (33.46, 9th).
Rebekah Lee turned in her best finish in the 50 breaststroke, where she took eighth in a time of 38:47.
Chase Woodard was eighth in the 50 breaststroke (34.63) and Dylan Porter placed 10th in the 100 freestyle with a time of 58.22. Connor Phillips came through with a ninth-place finish in the 50 backstroke, wrapping up the race in a time of 32.31.
Others who showed potential and improvement were Jordan Gilliard, Moira Conley, Hunter Richardson, Patrick Keele and Luke Smith.
Gilliard was 12th in the 50 breaststroke (39.71), Conley placed 10th in the 50 backstroke (35.67), Richardson finished ninth in the 50 breaststroke (34.69), Keele took 12th in the 50 freestyle (29.87) and Smith was seventh in the 50 butterfly (27.88).
“We are a young team but are making steady improvements from where we were three weeks ago,” Navarre head coach Mary Moorer said.
