No one can deny the excitement on the faces or in the voices of Eddie McCants and Malea Pandes as they talk about the opportunity to compete in the Special Olympics State Golf Championship in Orlando.
It means everything to them. The two talked about it ahead of their trip this past weekend.
“I’m excited about going,” Pandes said.
This will be Pandes’ first trip to Orlando for Special Olympics. McCants is making his second trip.
“It was cool, very cool,” McCants said. “I had a lot of fun last year and looking forward to it again.”
McCants, a familiar face around Navarre as he is always helping with the boys and girls golf teams at the high school, was to compete in a nine-hole tournament.
Pandes was entered in a skills competition.
Both are dedicated to becoming the best they can be in a game that is anything but easy.
“I just work hard and focus,” McCants said. “I practice a couple of times a week.”
Pandes is the same way.
“I’m out here two or three days. I feel like I’ve gotten better. I’ve improved the most with my chipping and driving,” Pandes said.
