Minnesota Twins General Manager Thad Levine said last Thursday the Pensacola Blue Wahoos are the perfect Double-A affiliate for the franchise.
“Gone are the times where you are just looking for a nice city or a nice stadium. You want a partnership. You want to join forces with someone who has a similar vision to what player development looks like,” Levine said.
Levine went on to point out that player development isn’t merely about throwing a great curveball or the ability to hit well.
Levine said he and Blue Wahoos owner Quint Studer and Blue Wahoos president Jonathan Griffin are on the same page with that.
“It has as much to do with growing them as individuals as well as pro baseball players,” Levine said. “Talking with Quint and Jonathan, it’s crystal clear they have the same level of commitment to standards of excellence.”
Pensacola is entering its eighth year in the Southern League. It spent the first seven as a Cincinnati Reds affiliate.
