Navarre made program history Friday night in a 50-39 win over Niceville, sweeping the Eagles in the regular-season series for the first time.
Matt Harshany scored 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds while Andre Smith added 11, helping Navarre improve to 10-7 overall and 4-1 in District 1-8A.
“It’s something we were hoping to do when we walked in here,” Navarre head coach Taf Bentley said. “It’s something we haven’t done since I’ve been here, or ever. I love the way we came together.”
The Raiders took control in the second quarter, outscoring the Eagles 17-2 and surging into halftime with a 22-9 lead. The effort defensively was encouraging for a team that has struggled on that end of the floor at times this season.
“We played really good defense tonight. That’s maybe the best defense we’ve played all year,” Smith said.
Now the stage is set for a showdown with Tate Thursday night in Cantonment, a share of the regular-season district crown on the line. Navarre lost 77-74 in overtime the last time the two teams met.
“We want to have a good week of practice and not have any distractions,” Navarre head coach Taf Bentley said. “It’s another opportunity for us to get better.”
