Softball team working well together during fall workouts

Navarre’s softball team has been on the field getting work in twice a week since the beginning of September.

Fall ball has provided an opportunity for the Raiders to get a feel for what they’ll have come this spring and an opportunity for the veteran players to mesh with the newcomers.

“We’re trying to introduce them to what to expect during the season,” senior Allison Gutierrez said. “Yes, we are fine-tuning everything, but this is more about us getting used to each other and working as a team.”

The Raiders are coming off their most successful season in recent memory, winning 16 games and finishing as the district runner-up for the first time since 2014. Their 2019 season ended in a 1-0 loss to Tate in the regional tournament.

Navarre head softball coach Kelly Hayes hopes to see the team build on what it accomplished a year ago. She notes that it starts with the time the players invest during the fall.

“This game is all about practicing over and over, getting those repetitions in,” Hayes said.
