Smith playing pivotal role on offensive line at Ave Maria

Entering his senior year at Navarre, LaMarcus Smith didn’t know if he would even play football after high school.

“I was undersized and not really getting any looks,” Smith said. “I didn’t think I had a chance to play college football.”

“It’s been amazing to have a chance to play,” Smith said. “I feel like every week I’ve gotten better.”

Smith is the starting left guard for a team that is in contention for a Mid-South Conference Sun Division championship and NAIA playoff berth.

The season is a stark contrast to 2017 when the Gyrenes went 2-8.

“It’s definitely a lot better when you are winning,” Smith said. “We struggled last year but have really come together as a team.”
