Cam Smith was thrown into the fire early in his soccer career at Huntingdon.
Only a freshman at the time, the former Navarre standout was tabbed as a starting center back on the defense in his second game at Huntingdon and has been in the lineup ever since.
As one can imagine, it was an experience that felt a little overwhelming initially.
“It was an intimidating experience to make that shift from high school to college, and it was intense to say the least,” Smith said. “The level of play is higher and the mindset is more serious. The first time you are out there, it’s a lot to take in. Fortunately, I was able to keep my composure and performed well.”
Smith is now a senior and eager to make the most of his final go-round with the Hawks.
He’s entering his second year as a captain on the team and it’s a responsibility he does not take lightly.
“The big thing is you are being looked up to. The coach is putting a lot in my hands,” Smith said. “It’s my job to make sure everyone is doing what they are supposed to be doing on the field.”
