Senior night a success for softball team

Fans packed the stands to watch Navarre’s softball team play its second-to-last home game of the regular season. The Raiders did not disappoint the senior night crowd, notching a 6-2 win over arch-rival Gulf Breeze.

The Dolphins threatened in the first inning when the first batter lined a pitch to left field. By the time the Raider outfielder reached the ball, the Dolphins had a runner on second base. The next batter singled to right and the runner reached third and headed for home. Allison Gutierrez charged the ball and fired a strike on the fly to catcher Emily Cunningham, who applied the tag 6 feet from home plate, ending the Dolphin scoring opportunity.

The Raiders scored the game’s first run in the bottom of the first inning when Kallie Anderson hit a long home run over the left field fence. It was Anderson’s sixth homer of the year and gave the Raiders a 1-0 lead.
