Navarre’s swim team competed at the Optimist Dolphin Invitational at the University of West Florida Saturday. A total of 16 teams competed and served as preparation for the district meet there later this month.
“It’s a tremendous help because of all of the officials here,” Navarre head coach Mary Moorer said. “It makes the swimmers more aware and gets them to tighten up what they are doing. I was really thrilled. We gave a good effort.”
The Raiders girls relay time finished 10th in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:21.42 while the boys placed 11th in the event with a time of 1:59.90.
In the 200 freestyle relay, the girls were sixth, clocking in at 1:57.73. The boys were 10th in a time of 1:46.73. The girls placed sixth in the 400 free relay (4:28.12 and the boys were eighth (4:01.71).
“We really concentrated on the relays for this meet,” Moorer said. “We wanted to see what we could do by changing things up. It worked out well.”
Navarre had two Top 20 finishers in the 200 free as Dylan Porter took 12th (2:06.11) and Luke Smith finished 17th (2:11.53). Porter was eighth in the 100 backstroke (1:06.03).
