Recruiting fair opens door to opportunities for athletes

Navarre running backs coach Tony Carter sits next to one of the college football coaches on hand for the recruiting fair in the high school library Friday afternoon.

He pulls out a packet and shares information on the Raider football players still looking for a school where they can continue their athletic careers.

“I talk to them about our kids being good students and about their test scores. I talk a little about football, but they can make their own evaluations based off the film,” Carter said. “We have a lot of impressive young men here and we want them to see that.”

The recruiting fair has been going on for several years now and is something Navarre head football coach Jay Walls started at Navarre. Carter is a big part of it as well because he serves as the Raiders’ recruiting coordinator.

It started with just three schools. It has now grown to 12, the majority being NCAA Division III or NAIA. Players from Pensacola to Panama City are invited to check it out.

“It’s turned out to be a pretty big deal,” Carter said.
