Navarre notched its first win in summer league play at Choctaw last Tuesday. The Raiders rolled over Gulf Breeze 57-41 behind a running attack designed to open the floor.
Under the guidance of junior varsity coach Bryant Cobb, the Raiders added their running game and a few new players in the final week of this summer schedule.
Their fast break looked more organized and flowed better into their set half-court offense.
“Coach Posey wanted us to push the ball up the court today,” Cobb said. “Look, we have one of the best point guards in the area in Louis Carter, and we wanted to push the pace a little bit.
Cobb was pleased with the overall effort.
“Against Gulf Breeze, we played as well as we have all summer,” Cobb said. “I think we did a good job of running the floor, and we got a lot of easy baskets.
Navarre also played Niceville and held the Eagles to 22 points in each half. The Raiders scored just 12 points in the second half. They trailed 22-20 at halftime after Eric Patino-Horta flushed a trey from the left wing just before the halftime buzzer, putting the Raiders down just a bucket.
