Raiders have tough week on the baseball field

Navarre’s baseball team suffered three tough losses last week.

After falling 5-3 to Pace Tuesday, the Raiders were swept by Niceville in district play Thursday and Friday. They lost 6-2 in the first game and 4-3 in the second.

In the game against Pace, the Patriots took advantage of two hits, a walk, and a Raider error to take a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Navarre tallied five hits in the fourth inning, but came up with just one run on an RBI single by Cade Taylor. Pace turned a double play and threw a Raider runner at the plate to minimize the damage.

Navarre tied the game in the fifth on a RBI by Cyrus Grimes, but Pace retook the lead in the bottom of the frame with a run. The Patriots pushed two more across in the sixth to go up 5-2. Navarre added a run in the seventh on Grimes’ second RBI, but the game ended with two Raiders stranded on base.

The Raiders battled Niceville to close out the week, hoping to win both to take the regular season district tournament and No. 1 seed in the tourney.

Things did not start out well in the first game as Niceville put up five runs in the top of the first. Navarre would load the bases in the bottom of the inning, but failed to get a run.

The Eagles 6-0 when the Raiders came to bat in the third before run-scoring doubles by Tyler Rebber and Andre Macedo put two runs on the board.

Navarre started the game the following night in Niceville with hits by Dusty Rogers, Cyrus Grimes, and Tyler Rebber, pushing Navarre in front 2-0.

Niceville tied the contest with single runs in the first and second. Navarre regained the lead in the third on a RBI single by Cam Terrian. The Eagles drew even again with a run in the fifth.

The game was still tied when Niceville came to bat in the seventh. The first batter went down on strikes, but Nick Nolan then walked and stole second. Noah Bailey came through with a walk off hit scored Nolan from second with the winning run.

Navarre plays at home against West Florida Thursday and closes out the regular season against Gulf Breeze Friday.
