Summer baseball ended last week, and as Navarre head coach Jon Boddy looks back on it, he’s pleased with the strides that have been made.
“Watching our guys play, I feel like we’ve played really well, especially the last week,” Boddy said. “We’ve had some guys step up that we weren’t sure would, and that’s been good to see. We feel good about some of the younger guys filling in some key roles for us.”
There is a more relaxed atmosphere to summer baseball, to a degree. Players still compete for sure, but the intensity and pressure that is seen in the regular season has been toned down a bit.
In the end, it’s all about improvement.
“We treat summer almost like spring training for football,” Boddy said. “We get a lot of guys playing time to see where they are at, and some of them haven’t played varsity ball before. It’s a big help giving them a chance to play to see what they can do in a game.”
