Navarre’s volleyball team traveled to Niceville to take on the district leaders on Sep. 14. They hoped to give the Eagles a good match, but were overwhelmed, losing three straight games, 25 – 6, 25 – 10 and 25 – 9.
The Eagles established their game plan early in the first game. The Raiders were no match against the hardest and most accurate service they have faced this season. Five of their first seven Eagle serves were sent deep into the right corner of the court. The serves had a lot of movement and were not handled by the back row of the Raiders. Finally, Caitlin Bethell scored a side-out with a hard hit past two Eagle blockers that cut the lead to seven to one.
The Eagles continued to run their offense with perfect sets followed by hard spikes, frustrating the Raider defense. Madison Jones was finally able to block an Eagle hit at the net for a side out making the score 11 – 2.
The Raiders had several spikes blocked before Lauren Robbins hit one through a block to make the score 16 – 3. After a Raiders side out, the Eagles went back to exploiting the deep right corner and won the first game 25 – 6.
