Navarre hosted county rival Gulf Breeze November 4 at the NYSA soccer complex and earned a 3-0 win.
Despite several scoring opportunities, including near misses by Garrett Haygood and Mario Cruz, the high octane Raider offense was held scoreless in the first half.
Fortunately, the stingy defense and keeper Zack Gonzales kept the Dolphins off the board.
Everything changed in the second half. Ten minutes after the break, Liam Palmatier broke free down the left side of the field and attacked the goal. His shot was scooped up by the Dolphin keeper, but it was a sign the Raiders had cranked up their intensity.
At the 27:10 mark, Malone Doughty found Jonah Cruz open in front of the net and Cruz gave the Raiders a 1-0 lead.
The Dolphin’s only real threat came just three minutes later. Gonzales made a diving deflection on a Dolphin shot, but the ball trickled toward the left post. Noah Cruz alertly stayed with the play and cleared the ball before a Dolphin player could reach it and punched it in.
Three minutes later, Bailey Bridges lofted a long ball from beyond midfield that caught the Dolphin defense napping. Jonah Cruz collected the pass on a dead run. The keeper elected to come way out of the goal to challenge, but Cruz eluded him and went in uncontested for his second goal in a span of six minutes.
